John Andretti
About John Andretti
John Andretti carried one of the most famous names in all of motorsport and used it as motivation to forge his own identity across 393 Cup Series starts, two victories, and a versatility that saw him compete in the Daytona 500 and the Indianapolis 500 in the same month. The Indianapolis, Indiana native was the nephew of Mario Andretti and the cousin of Michael Andretti, and his willingness to race anything, anywhere reflected the family's boundless competitive spirit. His 1999 double-duty attempt -- racing the Indy 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 in the same day -- was one of the most ambitious undertakings in modern motorsport and showcased the ironman mentality that defined his approach to racing. Andretti's two Cup wins came at Daytona and Martinsville, two tracks that could not be more different, proving his versatility. Andretti's career in NASCAR saw him drive for Petty Enterprises, where he piloted the legendary No. 43, giving the car a competitive edge during a period when the organization was struggling to find its footing in the modern era. His passion for competition and his genuine love for the racing community were felt throughout the garage. John Andretti passed away in 2020 after a courageous battle with colon cancer, during which he used his platform to raise awareness for the disease. His legacy extends beyond his racing achievements to the lives he touched and the awareness he raised. The sport lost a competitor and a gentleman.
