The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series is the third national series in NASCAR's hierarchy, featuring modified pickup trucks racing on ovals, short tracks, road courses, and — for the first time in 2026 — street circuits. Founded in 1995, the Truck Series has served as the entry point for some of NASCAR's biggest names. Kyle Busch, Kevin Harvick, Carl Edwards, and Kurt Busch all won Truck Series championships before becoming Cup stars. The series runs a compact 25-race schedule with shorter distances, producing action-packed events with higher caution rates and more lead changes than Cup or O'Reilly races.

The 2026 season brings significant changes. The Truck Series will compete in its first two street races in the 30-plus year history of the series — the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg on February 28 and NASCAR San Diego on June 19. Dover Motor Speedway returns to the Truck schedule for the first time since 2020, while Las Vegas Motor Speedway drops off for the first time since the series began in 1995. The championship moves to Homestead-Miami Speedway on November 6, with 18 regular-season races and a 7-race Chase determining the champion. Races air on FS1 and FOX.

Betting Context

The Craftsman Truck Series is the most volatile betting market in NASCAR — and that's where sharp bettors find the most value. Smaller fields, younger drivers, and higher caution rates mean more variance and more upsets. The public focuses almost entirely on Cup, so Truck Series lines are softer and mispriced more often than any other NASCAR division. Key angles: track-specific experience matters enormously for young drivers who may have never raced at a particular venue, and equipment gaps between well-funded teams (like ThorSport, TRICON, and Front Row) and underfunded entries are more pronounced than in Cup. The two new street races in 2026 — St. Petersburg and San Diego — add an extra layer of unpredictability since no truck driver has experience at either circuit.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series?
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series is NASCAR's third national series, featuring modified pickup trucks. Founded in 1995, it runs a 25-race schedule on ovals, short tracks, road courses, and street circuits. The Truck Series is known as the proving ground for young drivers and produces some of the most competitive, close-quarters racing in all of NASCAR.
How is the Truck Series different from Cup and O'Reilly?
The Truck Series runs fewer races (25 vs. 36 for Cup and 33 for O'Reilly), with shorter distances and smaller fields. The trucks have less horsepower than Cup cars and different aerodynamic characteristics. Fields tend to include more young, developmental drivers alongside veterans, creating a wider talent spread. The shorter races and more aggressive driving style lead to higher caution rates and more unpredictable outcomes.
What's new in the 2026 Truck Series season?
The 2026 season features two major firsts: the Truck Series will compete on street courses for the first time in its 30-plus year history, racing at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg (February 28) and NASCAR San Diego (June 19). Dover Motor Speedway returns after a five-year absence, while Las Vegas drops off for the first time since the series began. The championship race moves to Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Who are the top Craftsman Truck Series teams?
The top Truck Series teams entering 2026 include ThorSport Racing, TRICON Garage, Front Row Motorsports, McAnally-Hilgemann Racing, and Spire Motorsports. These organizations have the best equipment, engineering support, and manufacturer backing, giving their drivers a significant advantage over smaller operations.
