About Tim Flock
Tim Flock won two Cup Series championships, in 1952 and 1955, and did so with a flair and a personality that made him one of the most entertaining figures of NASCAR's earliest era. The Fort Payne, Alabama native came from the most remarkable racing family of the 1950s -- brothers Bob and Fonty were also accomplished drivers, and sister Ethel was one of the first women to compete in a NASCAR race. Flock's 1955 championship season was spectacular by any measure. He won 18 of the 39 races he entered, a winning percentage that remains one of the highest in the sport's history. Driving Carl Kiekhaefer's immaculately prepared Chryslers, Flock was virtually untouchable, and his dominance that year set a standard of single-season excellence that endures. He was also known for racing with a pet monkey named Jocko Flocko, who rode along in the car during races until the animal pulled the lug bolt from the car's trap door and caused such a commotion that Flock had to pit to remove his co-pilot. The incident became one of NASCAR's most beloved anecdotes. Inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2014, Tim Flock's two championships and colorful personality ensure his place among the founding legends of stock car racing -- a champion who won with flair in an era when the sport was still writing its own story.
