Jerry Nadeau
About Jerry Nadeau
Jerry Nadeau won one Cup Series race in 131 starts, a single victory at Atlanta Motor Speedway in 2000 that showcased the blazing speed he possessed on his best days. The Danbury, Connecticut native was one of the most naturally fast drivers in the garage during the late 1990s and early 2000s, a qualifier who could put his car on the front row with regularity. Nadeau's raw speed attracted the attention of Hendrick Motorsports, where he drove alongside Jeff Gordon and Terry Labonte. His qualifying performances were often stunning -- Nadeau had the ability to extract every last hundredth of a second from a car over a single hot lap, a talent that earned him the respect of crew chiefs and engineers throughout the garage. His career was tragically cut short by a devastating crash during practice at Richmond in 2003 that left him with serious head injuries and ended his Cup career at just 33 years old. The crash robbed the sport of a driver who was beginning to find his stride, and the question of what might have been had Nadeau remained healthy hangs over his abbreviated career. Jerry Nadeau's story is one of unfulfilled potential, a talent whose speed was evident to everyone in the garage but whose career was denied the years it needed to fully blossom. His single victory at Atlanta stands as a tantalizing glimpse of what could have been a much longer and more decorated career.
