Matt Mills has spent his career doing NASCAR's least glamorous, most essential work: keeping small teams respectable. Across 123 national-series starts split between the O'Reilly Auto Parts Series and the Craftsman Truck Series, the Lynchburg, Virginia native has been a steady hand for operations where every part has to last and every finish matters. His breakout came in the trucks, where a career-best fourth at Charlotte in 2024 finally let him race the leaders straight up. He has added top-10s at Nashville and on the Watkins Glen road course, evidence of a versatile baseline that had been hiding behind equipment limitations for years. Mills reached the national level in 2016 and ground through seasons of back-of-the-grid duty in the second-tier series before the truck results began rewarding the patience. Careers like his rarely make the highlight reel, but they are the sport's connective tissue: disciplined, self-aware racers who make full fields possible and occasionally remind everyone that they can flat-out drive.
