Red Farmer

Red Farmer is the elder statesman of the Alabama Gang, a racing legend whose career on the short tracks of the South spans more than seven decades. The Hueytown, Alabama native, originally from Florida, competed alongside Bobby and Donnie Allison, and together they formed a brotherhood of competition that put the small Alabama community on the racing map. Farmer's racing resume is remarkable for its sheer longevity -- he was winning races on dirt and asphalt short tracks from the 1950s through the 2010s, competing well into his 80s with a passion and competitiveness that defied the passage of time. His career included Cup Series starts, Late Model Sportsman championships, and hundreds of victories at local tracks across Alabama and the Southeast. He survived the devastating losses of his close friends and racing partners -- the deaths of Davey and Clifford Allison struck particularly close to home -- yet Farmer continued to race because competing was as essential to him as breathing. Inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2021, Red Farmer's legacy is not measured in championships or Cup victories but in the decades of dedication, the relationships forged through shared competition, and the living proof that a racer's spirit knows no expiration date.
