The 2026 season marks a watershed moment for NASCAR as the sport returns to the Chase format, replacing the elimination-style playoffs that governed championship racing from 2014 through 2025. Under the new structure, the top 16 drivers in regular-season points after 26 races qualify for the Chase — no win-and-you're-in automatic bids, just pure points-based merit.
