Joey Gase
Known as much for his heart as his racing, Joey Gase has dedicated his career to promoting organ donation awareness after his mother Mary Jo became an organ donor following a sudden brain aneurysm in 2011, ultimately helping 66 people. A team owner and driver with over 400 starts across all three national series, Gase won the inaugural Comcast Community Champion Award in 2015.
About Joey Gase
Joey Gase races for something bigger than trophies. After losing his mother Mary Jo to a brain aneurysm in 2011, the Cedar Rapids, Iowa native turned his career into a rolling campaign for organ donation awareness, honoring donors on his race cars while her own donation ultimately helped 66 people. On the track, Gase has been everywhere: 93 Cup Series starts, more than 300 appearances in what is now the O'Reilly Auto Parts Series, and Truck Series outings besides, much of it while running his own operation, Joey Gase Motorsports. His best results have come in the draft, including a fifth at Talladega in 2015 and a seventh at Daytona in 2017 in the second-tier series, classic underdog paydays at the tracks where the field runs tightest. Gase won the inaugural Comcast Community Champion Award in 2015 for his advocacy, and that may be the truest measure of his career. Plenty of drivers have won more races; very few have used a race car to do more good.
