Pocono Raceway

Pocono Raceway is one of the most distinctive tracks on the Cup schedule, a 2.5-mile triangular superspeedway in the mountains of northeastern Pennsylvania where no two corners are alike. Turn 1 is a tight, flat, tunnel-turn hairpin that demands heavy braking. Turn 2 is a sweeping, medium-banked arc that rewards carrying momentum. Turn 3 is a short, steeply banked kink that functions more like an intermediate corner. This asymmetry means that a car cannot be set up optimally for all three turns — every setup is a compromise, and the teams that find the best balance across three completely different challenges are the ones that contend. The three long straightaways produce high speeds and significant drafting, but the corner diversity means that the car that leads down the long front stretch may struggle in the Tunnel Turn. Pocono is an engineer's track, a puzzle that rewards preparation and adaptability in equal measure. The Poconos Mountains setting and the summer race dates have made Pocono a vacation-weekend tradition for families across the Northeast.
