They call it The World Center of Racing, and for once, the nickname is not an exaggeration. Daytona International Speedway has been the beating heart of NASCAR since Bill France Sr. carved a 2.5-mile tri-oval out of the Florida sand and opened its gates in 1959. The 31-degree banking in the turns launches cars past 200 mph, and the draft — that invisible force that binds 40 machines together at breakneck speed — makes Daytona unlike anything else in motorsports. Every February, the Daytona 500 opens the season as the Great American Race, a 200-lap test of courage, patience, and survival. The Big One lurks in every corner, a reminder that glory and devastation are separated by inches at these speeds. Legends have been made here — Petty, Earnhardt, Gordon, Waltrip screaming down pit road in disbelief. The DAYTONA Rising renovation in 2016 modernized the facility, but the soul of the place remains unchanged. When the green flag drops at Daytona, anything is possible, and that promise has drawn millions through its gates for over six decades.
