Track History

Las Vegas Motor Speedway is the bread and butter of NASCAR — a 1.5-mile intermediate oval in the Nevada desert that represents one of the truest tests of what a Cup Series team can build. Intermediates are where the best organizations separate themselves, where engineering and preparation matter more than any single moment of brilliance. The track has been on the Cup schedule since 1998, and since then it has consistently delivered competitive racing that showcases the depth of the field. As rubber builds on the surface through the course of a run, multiple grooves develop across the track width, creating the side-by-side racing that rewards drivers who adapt their line to changing grip levels. Long green-flag runs test tire management and aerodynamic balance, and the teams that find the sweet spot between short-run speed and long-run consistency are the ones contending when the laps wind down. Las Vegas does not lie — the cream rises in the desert, and the early-season visit reveals which organizations brought the best equipment while the late-season Chase race tests who improved the most.
